Submit correspondence for a Council agenda
If you wish to include a letter in a public Council agenda, please email the letter to the Municipal Clerk.
You may also mail the letter to Town Hall or drop it off in person:
Lunenburg Town Hall
Attn: Municipal Clerk
119 Cumberland Street, P.O. Box 129
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
B0J 2C0
Correspondence specifically addressed “to Mayor and Council” may be placed on a Council meeting agenda at the discretion of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Your correspondence will be placed on the agenda for information if it is in the public interest or requests action/requires a decision of Council. We do not place correspondence on the agenda related to operational matters (staff responds to these). However, if the correspondence is addressed to Council, a copy will be made available to all Council members.
If your correspondence is added to a Council meeting agenda, your name, as stated on the written submission, will be recorded in the permanent public Council minutes, which are published online (email addresses, civic addresses, and phone numbers are redacted).
You may also contact Council members directly using the contact information below.
Speak at Council meeting
There are 20 minutes allotted for public input at the start of every regular Council meeting. Members of the public may register to speak at the start of the meeting. Each person is limited to three minutes per meeting. The public input and questions section does not include public hearings for planning and development-related matters, new by-laws, or changes to existing ones. These items will have separate public hearings, where the public is allotted five minutes to comment or ask questions.
Speak at a public hearing or submit written feedback for a public hearing
Public hearings are typically held to discuss:
- Planning and development-related matters
- New by-laws or changes to existing by-laws
Upcoming public hearings will be advertised in the relevant agenda package, which is published on the Town’s website about a week before the Council meeting at which the public hearing is scheduled to take place. Public hearings are also advertised on the Town’s website and social media pages and in the LighthouseNow newspaper.
If you wish to speak at a public hearing, you may do so by registering with the Municipal Clerk by email or phone. You can register to speak up until 3 pm on the meeting day. Each person is limited to five minutes per public hearing. You may also register at the start of the meeting. However, those who have registered beforehand will speak first.
Written feedback may also be submitted for public hearings by emailing the Municipal Clerk. To be included in the public agenda package, your written comments must be received at least seven days before the public hearing date. Comments received after this time, up until 3 pm on the public hearing date, will be circulated to Council but not published in the public record. Comments received after 3 pm will not be distributed. Your comments must include at least your first initial, last name, and contact method (e.g., email address).
Email is the preferred method, but submissions can also be sent via mail (please allow sufficient time for delivery) and in-person at Town Hall — see the full address under the submit written correspondence section above.
Make a presentation at a Council meeting
To make a presentation on any matter within the jurisdiction of Council, please contact the Municipal Clerk by email or phone at least 10 days before the preferred meeting date (Council typically meets every second Tuesday of the month). You will be required to submit a written record of your presentation — this may be a PowerPoint, a report, or your speaking notes. The written record of your presentation will be included in the public agenda package.
