Each year, the Town of Lunenburg, the Mayor and Council recognize the extraordinary contributions of volunteers in our community.
In addition, a representative Volunteer is selected annually to be recognized at the Provincial Volunteer Awards ceremony.
This year, the Town of Lunenburg is pleased to announce Ellen Wathen has been named as the 2025 Town of Lunenburg Representative Volunteer of the Year!
The Town would also like to recognize the tremendous contributions from fellow nominees – Allan Richards, Tyler Smith, Janet Wells and Amanda Williams.
Ellen and her fellow nominees will be recognized at a Civic Volunteer Reception in the fall.

About the Nominees:
Ellen Wathen was nominated based on her work with LAMP, Harbourview Haven, Boxwood and the Lunenburg County Music Festival.
Allan Richards has been a volunteer and committee member with the Lunenburg Academy Foundation for nearly a decade and was nominated in recognition of his wide range of contributions to the organization.
Tyler Smith has been actively involved with youth sports as both a coach and a volunteer for a number of years. He was also recognized for his work with Newcomer Community.
Janet Wells’ involvement with both the Lunenburg Community Garden Steering Committee and the Lunenburg Food Bank Society stretches back more than a decade.
Amanda Williams was nominated on the strength of her role as a board member with South Shore Sexual Health and her involvement with Lunenburg Pride and South Shore Queer Hockey.
