Join the National Trust for Canada's World Heritage Celebration in Lunenburg!

Time: 1:00pm-5:00 p.m.
Location: King Street (between Lincoln and Cumberland – will be closed to vehicles)

The National Trust for Canada is bringing its cross-country celebration of 50 years of Canada's commitment to World Heritage to Old Town Lunenburg on Saturday, July 25, and everyone is invited to be part of this special afternoon.

Upper King Street Square, below Town Hall, will host this free heritage celebration from 1:00–5:00 p.m. The afternoon will begin with opening remarks at 1:00 p.m. from community leaders and special guests, after which visitors are encouraged to explore the celebration at their own pace.

1:00 – 1:30 Opening remarks featuring

  • CEO of National Trust, Dr. Patricia Kell (bilingual)
  • Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margarets, Honourable Jessica Fancy
  • Member of the Legislative Assembly for Lunenburg, Honourable Susan Corkum-Greek
  • Mayor of the Town of Lunenburg, Jamie Myra
  • Dr. Bernard Francis, Member of Membertou First Nation, educator, linguist, and storyteller; Peace Chant for Truth and Reconciliation

Throughout the afternoon, enjoy:

  • Interactive exhibits celebrating Old Town Lunenburg’s Outstanding Universal Value
  • Family activities including kids' colouring, an architectural scavenger hunt and a photobooth
  • While you're here, take in the Folk Harbour Festival concert at the nearby Town of Lunenburg Heritage Bandstand from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
  • Free guided walking tours of Old Town Lunenburg, including French-language tours, as well as a Lunenburg Historic Cemetery. Starting at the bandstand 3:00 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Ask a World Heritage Expert Q&A session, led by Dr. Patricia Kell, CEO National Trust, 3:30-4:00 pm
  • A special fireside chat featuring Dr. Bernard Francis, 4:00 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Whether you're a community resident or visiting for the first time, come discover the stories, people, and places that make Old Town Lunenburg one of Canada's treasured UNESCO World Heritage Sites as we celebrate this important national milestone together.
