The Town of Lunenburg, with support from ACOA, is working on a Cultural Tourism Economic Impact Study to better understand how cultural tourism supports our local economy, businesses, and community — and how we can continue to strengthen and grow it in ways that reflect who we are.

This study builds on the cultural tourism planning already underway. This work is rooted in the understanding that cultural tourism isn’t separate from Lunenburg’s identity; it’s built on it. Our culture, heritage, and way of life are what draw people here — and what make our tourism economy distinct and valuable.

Now, we’re taking the next step: identifying the cultural assets that define Lunenburg and quantifying their impact through an economic lens. This will help us better understand what supports our cultural tourism sector — and how to sustain and grow it for the future.

As part of this effort, we’re asking local businesses, employers, and self-employed individuals to complete a Business Survey about how cultural tourism affects their operations and livelihoods. Whether you’re directly involved in tourism or your work is influenced by it, your input is important.

Take the Business Survey here: [SURVEY: Help Shape the Future of Cultural Tourism].

The Business Survey is open until June 30 and will help guide future programs, policies, and support for the sector.

What’s next?

  • In July, we’ll hold cultural resource mapping workshops to engage the community and gather local knowledge about the people, places, and traditions that shape Lunenburg’s cultural identity.
  • A visitor survey will follow through July to September to help us understand what draws people here — and how we can enhance their experience.

Your voice matters. Help us shape the future of cultural tourism in Lunenburg — together.
