ACCESSIBILITY UPGRADES TO THE COMMUNITY CENTRE BEGIN MAY 11

Commencing May 11, the Community Centre Main Entrance will be undergoing accessibility upgrades. These upgrades are to remove barriers and ensure that the environment is safe and usable for everyone. These accessibility upgrades will comply to the CSA/ASC B651:23 National Standard of Canada, Accessible design for the built environment.
 
This project includes the following accessibility upgrades to the main entrance of the Community Centre:
 
📍Reconstruction of the concrete steps and ramp
📍New handrails
📍New accessible doors with automatic openers
📍New main entrance doors
 
There will be no disruption to current programming. Work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2026. During construction, visitors can enter through the entrance closest to the track or through the accessible entrance on the back of the auditorium (facing Bluenose Academy).

Notice of Intent: New Paid Parking By-law

Town Council has given First Reading to the proposed Paid Parking By-law at its meeting on April 28, 2026.

If adopted, the new by-law will replace the existing Parking Meter By-law and modernize how paid parking is managed in the Town.

ROAD CLOSURE - APRIL 30 - Lincoln Street

There will be a road closure on Lincoln Street (between Cornwallis Street and Duke Street), from 7am until mid-day, to allow Public Works to make repairs to a water service.

The closure will have minimal impact to the stores and will still allow access to the Lincoln Street parking lot. An area of sidewalk will be closed in front of 200 Lincoln Street, during the work.

Road users and pedestrians should follow signage and devices when travelling through this section of Town.

2026 Town of Lunenburg Representative Volunteer of the Year

 

Each year, the Town of Lunenburg, the Mayor and Council recognize the extraordinary contributions of volunteers in our community.

In addition, a representative Volunteer is selected annually to be recognized at the Provincial Volunteer Awards ceremony.

This year, the Town of Lunenburg is pleased to announce Craig Munroe has been named as the 2026 Town of Lunenburg Representative Volunteer of the Year!

The Town would also like to recognize the tremendous contributions from fellow nominees – Huw Griffiths, Linda Zinowki and Marilyn Zinowki.

Craig and his fellow nominees were recognized on Thursday,

April 23 at a Volunteer Recognition Reception.

Congratulations Craig, Huw, Linda and Marilyn!

 

Craig Munroe was nominated based on his work with the Lunenburg Curling Club and the Bluenose Golf Club.

Huw Griffiths’ nomination was based on his volunteer role as the President of the Navy League of Canada – Lunenburg Branch.

Linda and Marilyn Zinowki were recognized for their combined 20 years of volunteer service with the SHAID Animal Shelter.

TOL ELECTRIC UTILITY TRANSFORMER CAPITAL UPGRADES

This letter is to advise customers that TOL Electric Utility Transformer upgrades will begin April 27, 2026 and will continue late fall 2026.

The project will be completed in multiple stages, involving the installation of new conductors, poles, transformers, secondary power lines and services across all Town of Lunenburg Feeders. Work will begin on the 81W-231 feeder on the following roads/streets:

Green Street, Knock Lane, Morash Lane, Victoria Road and Wolff Avenue


During these upgrades, there will be times when short power outages will be required, however, efforts will be made to minimize the inconveniences to residents. Outage information will be provided by contractors, K-Line Construction, and/or town employees.
