NOT Wanted in our Wastewater System – Fats, Oil or Grease

When warm fats are poured down your sink they cool, harden and can stick to the inside of your sewer pipe or in Town sewer mains. Over time, this build up causes “fatbergs” that blocks sewer infrastructure – and costs everyone’s tax dollars to repair. You can help!

Never pour grease down any drain. Scrape dishes and cookware and dispose of in your green bin/compost cart

Everyday examples of the above: cooking oils, meat fats, dairy products, sauces & dressings, butter and lard.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SESSION

The Town of Lunenburg is creating a Sustainable Cultural Tourism Plan, and your input is key. Attend a Community Engagement Session for your chance to share your ideas and thoughts.

To accommodate different schedules, there will be two sessions held, both on March 5, 2025:
• Session 1: 1pm – 3pm
• Session 2: 4pm – 6pm

Both sessions will be held at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Dr.)

These two-hour sessions will feature breakout groups with station sessions, facilitated by our consultants and our Cultural Tourism Working Group.

Your input will help ensure Lunenburg’s heritage is preserved, our local culture is celebrated, and tourism grows in a way that benefits both residents and visitors alike.

Icy Conditions - Continue to Use Caution

Although generally conditions have improved as the week has progressed, please note that some areas of sidewalks, ramps and sections of roads (including crosswalks) remain icy and now may be masked by the recent snowfall.

Pedestrians are urged to continue to use caution – wear proper footwear, take slow, short steps and keep your hands free.

Public Works is actively working to mitigate the impacts of the winter conditions.

TOL and Parks Canada Discuss World Heritage Site Management

On Tuesday, February 18, Town of Lunenburg Council and staff welcomed representatives from Parks Canada’s Indigenous Stewardship and Cultural Heritage Directorate for a tour of Old Town Lunenburg and an evening orientation session for Council.

This was a great opportunity to meet in person and talk about our shared responsibilities in caring for our UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Town serves as the World Heritage Site Manager, responsible for day-to-day oversight, conservation efforts, and ensuring the site meets heritage standards. Parks Canada, as the State Party Representative, provides guidance and support on behalf of Canada to help World Heritage Sites meet their international commitments.

During our discussions, we covered key topics like site reporting, heritage impact assessments, management planning, and how the overall World Heritage framework works. Both the Town and Parks Canada are committed to working together to protect and preserve Old Town Lunenburg for future generations.

We look forward to continuing this collaboration to ensure Lunenburg remains a vibrant and well-preserved World Heritage Site.
