NEW SHORT-TERM RENTAL PROVINCIAL REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

The new Provincial Regulations for short-term rental and tourist accommodations requires proof of compliance documentation from your Municipality, in this case the Town of Lunenburg, to accompany your application. Please note the following documentation, provided together, meets the Town of Lunenburg’s requirements to show proof of compliance:
- A Development Permit to authorize the short-term rental use on your property. If you have previously applied for and obtained a Development Permit for short-term rental or tourist accommodation, you will not need to re-apply, but will still need to provide a copy when you register with the Province; and
- A Zoning Confirmation Letter to confirm that short-term rentals are permitted in your zone.
Please complete a pdf Heritage Development Encroachment Application Form(330 KB) . Return the completed form, along with a floorplan sketch of the general layout of the building for all floors, clearly showing which unit will be the short-term rental, to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or in person to Town Hall. Development Permits are free. Include with it a written request for the Zoning Confirmation Letter. The fee for a Zoning Confirmation Letter is $60.90, which can be paid via one of the Town’s pdf acceptable payment methods(125 KB) .
As we anticipate receiving a large volume of applications, please ensure that you have allowed adequate time to obtain your documents before the provincial registration deadline.

Blockhouse Hill Design Project Update

The Town of Lunenburg is updating the community on the Blockhouse Hill Design Project, which seeks to balance heritage conservation with new residential growth, emphasizing community engagement. After public engagement sessions and Council deliberations, further exploration is underway based on Design Option 2.

New Town of Lunenburg Online Bylaw Infraction Reporting Form Goes Live!

The Town of Lunenburg is happy to introduce a new online Bylaw Infraction Reporting Form that can be easily filled out and submitted from your phone, tablet or computer. The form, along with all Town Bylaws, is available via the following link:

Reports made using this form will go directly to our Bylaw Enforcement Officer, Shania MacLeod, for investigation and response.

Municipal Campaign School: July 13

Space is still available for the last in-person Municipal Campaign School, hosted by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing, in Shelburne on Saturday, July 13.
Time and Location:
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Shelburne Community Centre, 63 King Street
Workshop Details:
During the workshop, you will:
- Hear from diverse local councillors about the realities of the work.
- Gain knowledge on getting nominated, building your team, fundraising, and running a campaign.
- Practice networking, clear communication, and planning next steps.
- Identify supports and resources available to potential candidates.
Bonus:
Participants can be reimbursed for childcare (up to $25 an hour for 6 hours).
